Healing occurs when we are able to see our difficulties from a position of curiosity and compassion.

Specialties

I became a therapist because I have always been a keen observer of the human condition. Humans continually fascinate me and intrigue me. As a child, I thought I wanted to be an anthropologist or archeologist. Later, an activist or a policy maker. I am constantly paying attention to the decisions people make and why we make them. Humanity can be both shockingly terrifying and mystically beautiful. Why? And what motivates us toward anything great or terrible we might do? As an optimist and activist, my work is about creating a better world and the best way I know how to spread that magic is to start with you. And me. And us. Listening together to the great mystery of who we are and what we can do to be more than the sum of our parts.

After 20+ years in the field, my approach is eclectic and broad. However, the more I do this work, the more I feel that what I am offering my clients is nervous system regulation, resilience and repair. Through my experience of doing healing work with others, as well as healing from my own early attachment ruptures and the ongoing stresses of modern living, what seems to work the best is to care deeply and exquisitely for our relationships, nervous system health and environmental well-being.

Each of the modalities I incorporate follow the same philosophy of attending to the relational system in order to create a safe space to provide a healing experience that can rewire our attachment systems and calm an activated nervous system. Whether we do this in couples therapy or individual sessions, this is the process that time and time again leads to lasting healing and behavioral change.

I hope you will join me on a journey that leads you to become your biggest, most essential self. Healing is not just for you, but for all of us, our ancestors and our children.

AF-EMDR

Eye Movement Desensitization and Reprocessing

I’m a fully certified Attachment-Focused EMDR practitioner skilled in helping heal from the symptoms and emotional distress of disturbing life experiences, including single incident or recurring trauma, addiction and phobias.

Couples

Identify root causes of interactional patterns that leave you feeling alone and frustrated. I use Relational Life Therapy (Terry Real) among many other modalities and teachings.

Adult Children Who Grew Up in Families Impacted by Divorce, Addiction or Mental Illness

Helping you understand patterns that play out and evolve throughout adulthood. Often as adults we see how our childhood environment instilled habits that were once useful strategies to survive adversity. However, those same strategies can also be obstacles to real intimacy and healthy lifestyles (e.g. avoidance, co-dependence, numbness).

Non-Traditional Family Structures

Address the unique challenges of single parenting, CNM, queer, polyamorous, non-monogamous, adopted, foster and blended families. Not all of us look like the children’s books we grew up reading: Mom, dad, brother, sister. I did not grow up in a family that looked like this and I know that there are as many ways of creating healthy families as there are families.

With honest self-reflection, we can see the strengths and resources in who we have become through our struggles.

I am a licensed psychotherapist providing holistic counseling for individual adults and couples.

I use a multi-disciplinary approach focused on the whole person: body, mind and spirit. This includes attachment-focused EMDR, Hakomi, Sensory Awareness and mindfulness meditation.

In session with clients, I use a combination of traditional talk therapy and mindfulness-based techniques.

I will often ask my clients to pause and turn their attention to their internal experience while they are talking about their struggles. By doing this, clients can attend more deeply to what they are feeling and sensing.  They learn more about themselves, and they are also able to regulate their difficult emotions by slowing down their habitual processes and locating internal strengths.

My work with clients is influenced by:

  • Hakomi

  • Psycho-Physical Therapy

  • Sensory Awareness

  • Mindfulness Meditation

  • Attachment focused EMDR

Living my life as an ongoing experiment in aliveness continues to be a resource for my clients and myself.
